A framework for generalizing pseudoholomorphic invariants

Abstract: I will discuss recent work towards developing a framework which generalizes the theory of pseudoholomorphic curves. Â Ultimately this is a description of a theory of maps satisfying a particular PDE describing the intertwining of geometric structures on the domain and target manifolds. Â Such maps carry topological data and minimize a related energy functional. Â This topic is closely related to calibrated geometry, exceptional holonomy, and the theory of quasi-regular mappings.
