On the role of symmetry in convexity in the improvement of isoperimetric-type inequalities

Abstract: In this talk, we shall discuss how inequalities of Brunn-Minkowski type improve under additional structural assumptions, such as symmetry or convexity. We prove, in particular, that the standard Gaussian measure is 1/2n-concave with respect to addition of convex sets which contain the origin. This constitutes progress towards the conjecture of Gardner and Zvavitch. Along the way, we shall discuss several related open problems, and explain the general method of obtaining isoperimetric-type inequalities by verifying their infinitesimal forms via the L_2 method. This is a joint work with Sasha Kolesnikov.
