Sparse polynomial approximations of parametric and random elliptic PDEs

Abstract: We consider PDEs with coefficients depending on countably many parameters, which arise in particular when coefficients with uncertainties are modelled as random fields. This talk gives an overview of recent results on approximations of the corresponding parameter-to-solution maps, defined on infinite-dimensional domains, by tensor product polynomials. In particular, the new results take into account locality of spatial supports in the parametrization of coefficients. This talk also provides an optional introduction to the subject of the following colloquium talk.
