Abstract: In this 'two-lecture series' I will describe a very general nonlinear Fredholm theory which works in spaces much more general than Banach manifolds. The main point of such a generalization is that many interesting Floer-type theories which usually can only be constructed in an adhoc fashion allow a more conceptual approach. Some of the ideas will be explained in the context of Gromov-Witten theory. This is joint work with K. Wysocki and E. Zehnder
