Primes, elliptic curves and cyclic groups I
Speaker: A.C. Cojocaru, University of Illinois at Chicago (Host: Mihran Papikian)
Abstract: For a prime p, the group of units of the finite field F_p with p elements is always cyclic. What can be said about the group of points of an elliptic curve defined over F_p? We will explore such questions about primes in the context of reductions of an elliptic curve defined over a global field. The techniques used will span a vast spectrum, from arithmetic geometry to algebraic number theory to analytic number theory.
