Abstract: Oriented matroids are combinatorial abstractions of real hyperplane arrangements. Feedforward neural codes are firing patterns of neurons triggered by a weighted sums of input charges. In this talk, I will introduce these two objects, and describe some important relationships between them. We will use tools from matroid theory, algebraic topology, and commutative algebra.
