Abstract: One of the main tools in symplectic topology is the study of moduli spaces of pseudo-holomorphic maps defined on, perhaps punctured, Riemann surfaces with images in symplectic manifolds, symplectizations, or symplectic cobordisms. In general, these moduli spaces do not permit a satisfactory classical description in view of non-compactness phenomena. In the talk I will give a short introduction to the polyfold theory which provides an analytical framework to deal with these issues.
