Billiards in irrational polygons: Overview and recent progress

Abstract: Calculation or even estimating complexity of the billiard motion inside a general polygon (even a triangle) is a very challenging problem, see http://www.math.psu.edu/katok_a/pub/5problems-expanded.pdf Problem 3. in particular, no explicit subexponential bound is known. We will discuss the background and results giving specific bounds for an open G-delta set of angles (Boshernitzan-Vorobets, unpublished) and a remarkable recent result of Scheglov for a full measure set of of angles.
